Planning a Toddler Birthday Party in San Diego: A Simple Checklist

A toddler birthday can be a few favorite people, food you know your child will enjoy and room for little ones to play. You don’t need to fill every minute. This checklist helps you work through the practical details before choosing a party plan.

Start with the little guests

Write down the children you’d like to invite before you choose a package. Keep the grown-ups in mind too, and ask the venue about total occupancy rather than assuming a child limit covers everyone in the room.

At Rise & Shine Play in Point Loma, our private indoor play space is designed for ages 0–5. Older siblings ages 6+ may join the play space during a private party when their play stays safe and appropriate for the little ones. That differs from the older-sibling policy during regular Open Play.

Choose enough time for the celebration

Think about the parts of the day you want time for: arriving, exploring, eating, singing happy birthday and saying goodbye. A little breathing room can make hosting feel easier.

Our Little Gather package includes a two-hour private party for up to 8 little guests. The Gather includes two hours and 15 minutes for up to 12. Gather Awhile includes two and a half hours for up to 16. Each includes a dedicated party attendant, 30 minutes before the party for setup and cleanup afterward.

Keep food and decorations manageable

Choose food that is easy to serve and decorations you can set up within your arrival window. At Rise & Shine, tables, chairs and a personalized birthday sign are ready when you arrive. You’re welcome to bring your own food, decorations and personal touches.

Please avoid overly messy foods such as ice cream. Glitter, confetti, face paint and similar items need specific approval. If you’re considering a vendor or an activity that needs extra space or setup, ask us before making arrangements.

Decide what would add to your day

Extras should fit the way your group likes to celebrate. Our available add-ons include a coffee cart with a barista, a bounce house with an attendant, additional little guests up to 16 and extra party time, subject to availability. See the party page for current options and pricing.

You can also ask us for local recommendations for food, décor, favors or activities. Confirm the details that matter to your family before booking, including total guest capacity, whether the birthday child counts toward the allowance, payment terms and cancellation terms.

Ask about your date

Weekend dates often book a few weeks ahead, so reach out early if you have a particular date in mind. Sharing your preferred date, approximate child count and package choice gives us a useful starting point.

Our inquiry form is the next step to check availability. Sending an inquiry does not itself confirm a reservation. We’ll help you work through the details so you can focus on the people coming to celebrate.

You’ll find Rise & Shine Play at 2907 Shelter Island Drive, Suite 102, in Point Loma, San Diego. Want to get to know the space before the big day?
